Man u sign £ 27 million pounds left back

The Mirror reports that Manchester United have agreed a £27m deal to sign Southampton’s Luke Shaw this summer.

Shaw has become one of the most highly-rated full-back’s in Europe after another impressive season at St Mary’s Stadium, with his adventurous form down the left flank catching the eye of several top clubs both here and in the continent.

Chelsea have long been linked with the 18-year-old and were understood to be in pole position to sign him at the end of the season, with Jose Mourinho earmarking him as the ideal long-term successor to Ashley Cole.

The defender was born in South-West London and grew up a Chelsea fan, so newspapers had suggested the player was willing to snub the advances of United and other interested parties and wait for his boyhood team to make their move.

However, it seems Shaw may have lost his patience, with the Mirror now claiming that he is set to join Manchester United after the defending champions agreed a £27m deal with Southampton to sign the teenager at the end of the season, while the player will supposedly sign a long-term contract worth £85,000-a-week.

If this report proves accurate, it will be a stunning coup for United and David Moyes if they have managed to beat Chelsea to Shaw’s signature. He is certainly one of the most exciting full-back’s in Europe and with Patrice Evra looking likely to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires in the summer, Shaw would make for an excellent replacement.

It remains to be seen how much truth there is in this story though, as the newspapers seem to change their tune on a weekly basis, so there could still be hope for Chelsea. I’m sure if they learn that United are close to sealing the deal, then the Blues will do their best to try and gazump the move. And we’ve seen in the past that the west Londoners have a habit of being able to hijack deals at the last minute….
