Unlucky Dortmund Edged Out Of Champions League

Marco Reus scored twice but an unlucky Borussia Dortmund could not quite produce the miracle needed to advance against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Last year's beaten finalists were brilliant from start to finish but were left ruing a host of missed chances.

Madrid thought the tie was settled when they were awarded a penalty after 15minutes, Lukasz Piszczek harshly penalised for handball.

With Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench Angel Di Maria took over penalty duties.

But the Argentine slipped and Roman Weidenfeller was able to bat the shot away.

Dortmund then upped their tempo and scored through Marco Reus; the German poking the ball past the onrushing Iker Casillas and into an empty net.

They had a second 13minutes later, Reus pouncing on a loose ball to get Dortmund fans dreaming.

But Henrikh Mkhitaryan was to become the villain for the home side. The Armerenian missed three excellent chances and it was Carlo Ancelotti's team who progressed.
