Man u old boys preparing to launch takeover of Manchester United

According to multiple media reports, Manchester United's famous 'Class of 92' are preparing a £2b takeover of the Old Trafford club.

The Sun first ran the story yesterday and claimed that the Manchester United legends, including David Beckham, could launch the massive takeover of the Premier League champions.

Despite being in the midst of one of their worst seasons in living memory, the club is valued at £1.6b - a figure well below the class of 92's reported takeover bid.

It is believed that Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt are in detailed talks to lead a multi-billion pound consortium funded by the oil-rich Qatari Royal Family to purchase a 90 per cent stake in the club from the Glazer family.

Americans Joel and Avram Glazer took bought the club in 2005 and have faced constant criticism and disapproval from a small group of supporters ever since. However, with the club in the midst of their worst ever Premier League season following the departure of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, players past and present have joined the growing number of supporters in openly complaining about the club's direction this season.

Following the embarrassing 3-0 Manchester Derby defeat on Tuesday - City's third straight win over United at Old Trafford - rumours have begun to circulate that United's American owners are becoming disheartened with the club as a source told the Sun:

'The Glazers have lost interest. Everyone knows the club is effectively up for sale...'

This is not the first time a consortium have approached the Glazer's about selling the club, but the Americans have refused previous advances as their valuation of the club had not yet been met. However, a serious takeover bid from United's golden generation - the Class of 92 - could be hard to resist as it would likely appease all parties involved and have the best interest of the club in mind.

A spokesperson for Manchester United said: 'We haven't received any bids for the club. If we had we would have informed the New York Stock Exchange.'
